currently // December

On the first of every month I plan to launch a new series called “currently” and inspired by Erin Dorney. As I’m fond of saying, life can be found in and an inspiration for every aspect of librarianship. Let’s inspire each other! Tell me what you’re doing, too.

Remember how I said I was going to do this every month? Apparently I lied. Now that it’s December, I’m going to try to reboot this series. At least this way I’ll have one post for you a month 😉

listening // Christmas music by Trans-Siberian Orchestra

watching // Chuck

reading // The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey

wanting // this Dr. Who T-shirt and this Tea Advent Calendar

working // on learning a new set of library policies for my (new!) part time job at a different city library system.

writing // my final paper for Ethics and my final research proposal for Evaluating Library Services.

thinking // that I can’t believe it’s already December and that I haven’t even thought about Christmas gifts.

What are you guys doing?

currently // July

This post is part of a series called “currently” where I share what has been inspiring (or distracting) me lately. What does it have to do with libraries? Well, as I’m fond of saying, life can be found in and an inspiration for every aspect of librarianship. Let’s inspire each other! Tell me what you’ve been doing lately.

listening // Preston Reed Pandora mix + Enter Sandman by Metallica + The Soundtrack to “Once More with Feeling” from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (it’s so much better than I bet you would expect!)

watching // Good Eats episodes. He’s like Bill Nye the science guy, but with food. Plus, these offer me perfect little 20-minute bites as breaks between schoolwork (Bites. Get it?).

reading // Telegraph Avenue by Michael Chabon. In less than two books, he’s become my favorite author.

wanting // this epic rewrite of Star Wars in William Shakespeare’s style + these hilarious dinosaur bookends.

working // on trying to hide my excitement over news I can’t quite share with you all…yet.

writing // a 20-page paper on managing autistic employees in a library setting. It’s actually really exciting. No. Really. It’s kind of becoming my life’s work. I’ll share more when I’m not stressing out about hitting deadline.

thinking // about how weird the brain is. Whenever I begin absent-mindedly whistling, I always whistle “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Strange.

What are you guys doing?

currently // June

listening // Pompeii by Bastille + Screen by Twenty One Pilots + The Sore Feet Song by Ally Kerr (made popular by the gorgeous anime, Mushi-Shi)

watching // Original Star Trek movies + Mushi-Shi + Numb3rs.

reading // Bossypants by Tina Fey and a growing backlog of American Libraries, College and Research Libraries and National Geographic.

wanting // these gorgeous hand-painted Toms + this R2D2 wine bottle stopper.

working // on four different applications for various part-time paraprofessional jobs in my area. *fingers crossed*

writing // Cover letters. Not kidding about the whole application marathon.

thinking // about the future of the field as another library prepares to close down in my city

What are you guys doing?
